Steeped in history, the Pakenham Racing Club was formed in 1875. Renowned for being a progressive race club, Pakenham has been at the forefront of many advances in racing including; the first race meeting in Australia where decimal currency was used and a fact which is unknown to many that colour TV was experimented at a Pakenham race meeting on 15 June 1967. Officially colour TV came to Victoria on March the 1st 1975.

The 2013/14 season will see Pakenham host 10 TAB meetings and a picnic meeting. As such the racecourse is a popular spot for various picnic parties. The New Year's Day fixture is one of the biggest amateur meetings in Victoria. 5 out of the 10 race meetings are also Feature Race Days.
This race season will be extremely exciting as it will be the last race season held at the current site. Located within an hour's drive of Melbourne on the city fringe, Pakenham provides a country atmosphere without the metropolitan price tag. It has a regular train service to the Pakenham Station which is an easy 2 minute walk to the track.

The Pakenham Racing Club operates two 7-days-a-week hospitality & Entertainment venues - the Cardinia Club & Pakenham Sports Club

A new chapter in will commence in 2014 when the club relocates, following the 2014 Pakenham Cup, to a new world class venue on 608 acres in Tynong.
